Research on Chen Duxiu (Volume 2)

Author: Shen Ji

Publish Date: 2003-08-01
Features: This issue, excluding the "Preface" and the "Bibliography of Research Works and Materials on Chen Duxiu (1998-2002)," contains 24 papers and materials. The first three are speeches by Wei Xinyi, an advisor to the Anhui Chen Duxiu Research Association; Long Nian, honorary president; and Ye Shangzhi, a revolutionary veteran and advisor to the Chen Duxiu Research Association of the China Modern Culture Society. We are grateful for their enthusiastic support. Without their assistance, our work would not only be difficult to carry out but also struggle to survive. Professor Zhang Jingru wrote in "A Century of Tides" that current Chen Duxiu research is not yet ideal, with one major flaw: "There is insufficient research on Chen Duxiu's remaining writings, as if the interests of many researchers are not focused on Chen Duxiu's thought." Mr. Ye Shangzhi also believed that the proportion of research on Chen Duxiu's culture is relatively small, "unreasonably disproportionate, and there is a significant need to address this shortcoming." These are all excellent opinions. We have taken note of this. Chen Duxiu's life actions are the practice of his thoughts and words, and his remaining writings and cultural thought should hold an important position in research. Of the 24 articles in this issue, over 80% discuss his "remaining writings" and cultural thought.
