Features: Little Women is the masterpiece of American female writer Louisa May Alcott, set against the backdrop of American family life in the late 19th century, depicting the growth experiences of the four March sisters. The first half describes the family life of the impoverished Marches during the Civil War; the second half portrays the sisters leaving home to seek independence and eventually finding their own happiness. Mr. March serves in the army in Washington, while Mrs. March stays at home to educate their four daughters: Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy. The four sisters have distinct personalities. Meg is beautiful and gentle, proud of her appearance, and longs for a luxurious life; Jo is lively, cheerful, brave, and passionate about writing, but her personality is impulsive and she has a fiery temper; Beth is naturally quiet, gentle, and kind, but overly shy and afraid to interact with outsiders; the youngest Amy has a beautiful appearance, ladylike manners, and a talent for painting. However, due to excessive pampering from her family, her vanity and selfishness grow. Under Mrs. March's guidance, the four sisters learn to love and tolerate each other, recognize their own strengths and weaknesses, and understand that poverty is not, as long as they have a kind and compassionate heart, love life, and work hard, they can find their own happiness.
When Meg interacts with high society, she realizes that a luxurious and extravagant life makes people vulgar, and only inner beauty is truly precious. She falls in love with Mr. Brooke, a poor but kind and ambitious man, and marries him. They have a pair of adorable twins and learn to manage household affairs and care for their husband and children through ups and downs, leading a happy and fulfilling married life.
Jo's reckless nature once nearly drowns her younger sister Amy. From then on, she decides to always remain calm and restrain her sharp words. Jo showcases her literary talent by publishing stories in newspapers and writing her own novels, earning her livelihood through writing and making life more comfortable for her family. Jo rejects the advances of Laurie, a young and charming neighbor, because although she likes him as a friend, she does not love him in her heart. Later, Jo meets Professor Bhaer, a German, who is foreign, nearly forty, penniless, and lives by teaching. However, his kind and compassionate heart deeply attracts Jo. Jo falls in love with and marries the professor, settles in Plumfield, opens a school there, and begins her life as a teacher, later giving birth to two sons.
Beth's gentle and kind fate leaves one to sigh in sorrow. While caring for a sick child in the neighbor's house, Beth contracts scarlet fever. Although she recovers later, her health gradually declines, and the "peaceful child" stops breathing in her sleep, ending her young and short life.
Amy, with her clever and charming personality, wins the favor of Aunt March and receives her support to travel to various countries in Europe for several years, broadening her horizons and improving her artistic appreciation. During her travels, she meets Laurie, who is heartbroken, and while comforting him, the two fall in love and get married, realizing that love is more important than money and status.
Throughout their growth, the four sisters overcome their personality flaws, except for Beth, who dies too young. The rest of the sisters live happy married lives, achieve personal independence, and grow into "Little Women."
