Features: In recent years, the number of people in China who are interested in Western classical music has been increasing, especially among the youth, which is an encouraging phenomenon. In the current favorable situation where the popularity of classical music is expanding, the People's Music Publishing House has selected dozens of translations from the "Rowohlt Musician Biographies Series" published by Rowohlt-Verlag in Hamburg, Germany, for the purpose of providing references for a broad range of music enthusiasts in China, including audiophiles, as well as music professionals (teachers, performers, etc.) for music appreciation, learning, research, and teaching. To meet the needs of some readers for in-depth research, all citations in the book are meticulously marked with footnotes at the end of the book. Additional note: If there are names, places, terms, or events that are unfamiliar to Chinese readers but are essential for understanding the text, the original work did not include annotations, but our translators have added these as footnotes at the bottom of the relevant pages. Each volume in the series is accompanied by a complete catalog of the composer's musical works, which serves as an important reference for music enthusiasts and researchers. The appendices at the end of the book include publications on the composer's research and important bibliographies, most of which are highly regarded works in the history of research, while some are newly published. These two appendices are included in their original form after the Chinese translation. It should be noted that the information provided in these appendices is both new and reliable, serving as important references or bases for further research.
