Features: Peng Yongguang, a native of Luling (now Jiujiang Jianshan in Jiangxi), was a medical practitioner during the Ming Dynasty. He was skilled in medicine and particularly adept at Tai Su pulse diagnosis. In addition to Yuan You Xin Fa (Essentials of Infant Care), he authored Ti Ren Hui Bian (Compendium of Benevolence) in 6 volumes and Jian Yi Pu Ji Liang Fang (Simple and Effective Remedies for Common Illnesses) in 6 volumes. Yuan You Xin Fa consists of 3 volumes. The first volume primarily discusses issues to be noted during pregnancy, childbirth, and infant care. The second and third volumes are organized by syndrome, categorizing pediatric diseases from infancy to adulthood into 27 sections. Each section elaborates on the etiology, pathogenesis, four diagnostic methods, medication, treatment principles, and specific prescriptions based on the syndrome. The book also employs poetic and rhyming forms, accompanied by diagrams and illustrations, making the content vivid and easy to understand, facilitating memorization. The entire book is comprehensive in its prescriptions and treatments, extensively referenced, occasionally presenting new insights, and particularly detailed in its discussion of treatment principles and methods. The book has the following features: tracing origins, emphasizing fetal education; classifying prescriptions by syndrome with extensive discussions; diverse treatment methods with emphasis on external treatments; extensive references with rich illustrations.
Supplement to Pediatric Syndromes was written by Zhang Chang (1563—?), styled Jiahong, and styled Haicheng, a native of Da Liang (now Kaifeng in Henan), a medical practitioner during the Ming Dynasty with a family tradition in medicine. Supplement to Pediatric Syndromes is a single volume written in the form of "question and answer," providing detailed explanations on the main symptoms, etiology, treatment methods, and prescriptions for common pediatric conditions such as fetal cold and fetal heat, totaling 15 types. The book includes 5 categories of pediatric diseases, such as liver and gallbladder syndromes in spring, to illustrate the essentials of pediatric zang-fu organ and meridian syndrome differentiation. At the beginning of the book are diagrams and rhymes on observing complexion, examining fingertip lines, and determining pulse methods, emphasizing the key points of pediatric diagnosis. At the end of the book are included "Songs of Medicinal Herbs for Pediatric Conditioning" and "Effective External Treatment Formulas for Pediatric Conditions," highlighting the unique aspects of pediatric treatment and medication. The entire book delves deeply into the etiology of diseases, with meticulous attention to theory, methods, prescriptions, and medications, particularly showing original insights in treatment methods and medication, making it a valuable reference for future practitioners.
