The approximately 12,000 articles published in 《Cultural Relics》have been reorganized into categories and arranged in the order of publication, with an added author index to facilitate readers. 《Cultural Relics》was founded on January 31, 1950, with its headquarters in Beijing. Initially named 《Cultural Relics Reference Materials》, it was compiled by the Cultural Relics Bureau of the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China. Originally an internal publication, it was changed to a public, irregularly published journal by the 《Cultural Relics Reference Materials》Editorial Committee in 1951. In 1953, it was changed to a monthly publication. Starting from the first issue of 1959 (Issue No. 101 in total), it was renamed 《Cultural Relics》and compiled by the 《Cultural Relics》Editorial Committee. It was suspended in May 1966. It resumed publication in January 1972. By the 12th issue of 1989, a total of 403 issues had been published. 《Cultural Relics》has the largest circulation among similar journals in China and has ranked among the top in the export volume of all Chinese journals in China for many years, and has ranked first since the 1990s (according to statistics from the China International Book Trading Corporation), selling to dozens of countries and regions around the world. 《Cultural Relics》is one of the most influential Chinese journals in academia both at home and abroad, enjoying a high reputation, and has become a window for promoting China's cultural relic protection and scientific research achievements overseas. On February 4, 1997, 《People's Daily》(Overseas Edition) published a news report stating that 《Cultural Relics》was "one of the most popular Chinese journals among overseas readers". In recent years, 《Cultural Relics》Monthly has won the National Journal Award for three consecutive sessions and was ranked as the highest grade "Double High Journal" in the Chinese Journal Matrix. In 2002, the Information Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences surveyed more than 780 influential academic journals nationwide, and 《Cultural Relics》ranked first in all four aspects of domestic circulation, overseas circulation, domestic citation rate, and overseas citation rate. 《Cultural Relics》Monthly has become a major window for promoting China's cultural relic protection and scientific research achievements overseas. 《Cultural Relics》won the first National Journal Award in 1999 and was ranked as one of the "Top 100 Key Social Science Journals in the Second National".
