Features: THEWAYIN is an English course designed for beginners and those who have learned some English and wish to improve further. The course materials are based on stories that take place between staff and guests in a large international hotel. If you have listened to this teaching program on the radio, this book will help you review the English you have learned and teach you how to apply it. If you haven’t heard the program, you can use the accompanying tapes to understand the plot of the stories in the book. This course can be self-studied, learned with friends, or taught by a teacher. The entire book consists of 50 lessons, each including vocabulary from the short plays, language points, and exercises related to the content learned. Each lesson also includes Chinese explanations to clarify how to do the exercises, as well as explanations of key vocabulary and grammar points. The answers to the exercises are provided at the end of the book, so you can check them after completing each exercise. The book also includes listening exercises to help you familiarize yourself with English pronunciation, intonation, and practice speaking. If you encounter difficulties, the book provides a transcript of the full recordings along with Chinese translations to assist you in understanding, but it is recommended to try completing the listening exercises using only the tapes. There are also listening exercises to help you practice speaking. Jake and Mike, your personal teachers, will guide you through these exercises in the tapes. All listening and speaking exercises are marked with symbols. If you find the pauses on the tapes too short to complete your answers, you can use the pause or stop button on your recording device. Most exercises revolve around events that happen in the hotel, but once you have practiced the new language points, you will have the opportunity to talk about yourself and apply the learned language points to relevant situations in your own life. Although a good dictionary or grammar book can be very helpful during your study of THEWAYIN, it is not necessary, as the Chinese translation sections can help you overcome difficulties, and the word list at the end of the book includes all the words you will encounter.
