Marshals and field marshals are arranged according to the official list released at the time. Others are sorted by seniority as senior generals, medium-ranking generals, and junior generals, with names within the same rank ordered by stroke count. Generals promoted between 1955 and 1964, including those promoted after 1988 (inclusive) with higher ranks than those before, are introduced in the text but not listed in the roster order. The volume includes 10 marshals, 10 field marshals, 57 senior generals, and 177 medium generals. 1,360 junior generals are divided between the second and third volumes.
