Features: Each unit includes four major sections:
Listening (Listening): Provides cultural notes (Cultural notes) and discusses cultural differences. Helps students understand and overcome communication barriers, avoiding communication errors. Accompanied by audio for listening practice.
Reading (Reading): Offers several texts centered around the unit theme, increasing information and language input. For these texts, teachers can choose:
(1) Assign students to study them outside class to allow more time for "speaking" in class;
(2) Select some for in-class reading and discussion, fostering creative language use to achieve communicative goals and develop fluency. The Notes section at the end of each unit is designed for convenience and learning effectiveness, with most entries providing English-Chinese bilingual explanations, while a few use only one language. English explanations are omitted when the definition is simple and easy to understand in English, or when learners are familiar with synonyms. Chinese explanations are omitted when English definitions would be confusing.
Writing (Writing): Combines cross-cultural contexts, emphasizing the communicative purpose of writing to reinforce and review learned content, develop logical thinking, and enhance oral coherence. Additionally, each unit is equipped with related vocabulary and expressions (Related words and expressions) to expand students' lexical reserves related to the unit theme. Useful designs include humor, riddles, and puns related to the theme to boost learning interest; quotes to deepen understanding of the unit theme, which can be memorized and used in communicative activities or organized for discussions and debates. Some units also feature English songs to liven up the atmosphere, increase language learning interest, improve pronunciation and intonation, especially the rhythm, assimilation, elision, and linking of intonation. Song lyrics are relevant to the unit and include fill-in-the-blank exercises for listening practice and deeper thematic understanding.
At the end of the book, there are five appendices for reference by users: common functional sentence patterns, exclamations, interjections, tongue twisters, and classroom activity formats.
