The "Biographies of Contemporary Chinese Figures" series will first compile biographies of the founding heroes of the People's Republic of China and outstanding figures from various fields. The main figures in these biographies will include: the main leaders of the Party and the state (among whom, the biographies of Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Liu Shaoqi, Zhu De, Deng Xiaoping, and Chen Yun will be written and published by the Documentation and Research Center of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China), the meritorious marshals in the People's Liberation Army, the leaders of the various democratic parties who participated in the founding of the new China, and renowned patriotic figures from all walks of life, outstanding scientists, writers, and artists, as well as internationalist fighters who made significant contributions to China's democratic revolution and socialist cause, and so on. Without a doubt, they are not only the outstanding representatives of contemporary China but also historical giants whose names will be recorded in the annals of eternity. Of course, like all historical figures, the outstanding representatives of our time could not be free from the limitations of historical conditions and would inevitably have certain weaknesses and shortcomings, as well as some mistakes in their lives. However, all of these, like the eclipses of the sun and moon, would not tarnish their glorious image if openly acknowledged. The great achievements they created for the Chinese nation, their revolutionary spirit, noble sentiments, outstanding talent, and wise words—all of these will shine through the ages and set an example for future generations. This is a precious spiritual wealth of the Chinese nation that is always worth cherishing. It will become the best textbook for cultivating the patriotic spirit and socialist belief of generations of Chinese people.
