Features: The Wang Maimai book brand dates back to the 1980s. In 1987, a book titled The Spy Catcher by a former British MI5 intelligence officer caused a sensation in Western society, and China Central Television (CCTV) also reported on it in the News Broadcast. As a result, the domestic publishing industry was inspired, scholars and translators worked tirelessly to search for publishing information, and relevant publishers did their utmost to seize publishing opportunities. However, it was the unknown Wang Maimai who emerged victorious from the crowd, signing a contract with Changjiang Literature and Art Publishing House. Making his debut, he achieved a resounding success with the first edition of his translation of The Spy Catcher, selling nearly 100,000 copies. The winning momentum carried on, and in the following years, Wang Maimai's translations of works such as Royal Sisters, Midnight Thoughts, Nancy Reagan's Memoirs, and The Unpublished Works of Mark Twain were published, each becoming bestsellers.
After 1990, due to teaching commitments, Wang Maimai began to compile college English textbooks and teaching materials for the CET-4 and CET-6 exams. From then on, bookstores near universities across the country continuously introduced best-selling Wang Maimai English books. Like a sudden spring breeze, a thousand trees burst into blossoms. In the domestic college English teaching materials market, Wang Maimai English became nearly the sole dominant force, leading the trend for over a decade.
Today, the Wang Maimai English series has hundreds of titles, covering a wide range of subjects from middle school to college and postgraduate entrance exams. Its brand has gained increasing popularity due to its exceptionally clear explanations of textbook difficulties and its precise grasp of exam trends. Surveys show that many college and high school students across the country own Wang Maimai brand books, with almost every student having at least one. The level of popularity is evident.
The College English Test Band 6 (CET-6) is undergoing significant reforms, with the traditional 100-point system being replaced by a 710-point scoring method. However, no matter how the scoring changes, vocabulary remains the foundation of language. To help students preparing for the CET-6 exam build a solid vocabulary foundation, we have compiled Wang Maimai's College English Band 6 Vocabulary based on the Ministry of Education's New College English Curriculum Requirements. All entries in this book are arranged alphabetically, with phonetic transcriptions, parts of speech, and Chinese definitions. Most importantly, we have provided typical exam questions for the words and phrases we believe are key to mastering, along with detailed answers to the practical problems students may encounter during the exam. Our goal is to minimize students' aimlessness in their preparation and save them as much time as possible, ensuring they study with purpose.
