Features: Liezi is a classic work of Taoism, traditionally attributed to Liezi. Liezi, also known as Yu Kou or Lie Yu Kou, was one of the prominent figures of Taoism during the Warring States period. The philosophical themes of the surviving Liezi adhere to the naturalist worldview of traditional Taoism, with its doctrines closely resembling those of Zhuangzi. However, it also incorporates the writing style and ideas of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, leading some to believe that the book may have been written later and attributed to Liezi. Liezi contains numerous fables, folk tales, and mythological stories, preserving valuable materials of ancient folk literature. On the other hand, works like the Chapter on Strength and Fate and the Chapter on Yang Zhu reflect the reflections of Wei-Jin Xuanxue thought. This is the English full translation of Liezi, translated by Li Xiaopeng, a doctoral graduate in Dunhuang Studies and professor of English at the School of Foreign Languages, China Ocean University; the Chinese modern translation was done by Li Jianguo, a senior editor at the Chinese Language and Literature Publishing House and secretary-general of the Chinese Society of Lexicography.
