Features: Experimental Nuclear Medicine is one of the series of planned teaching materials for master's and doctoral students in medical, pediatric, pharmaceutical, and preventive medicine, developed under the guidance and organization of the National Higher Medical Education Textbook Construction Research Association, the Ministry of Health Textbook Office, and the People's Medical Publishing House, in line with the spirit of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health to further standardize and strengthen graduate education. This textbook focuses on the application of nuclear medicine techniques in medical research, systematically introducing new technologies, methods, and cutting-edge research fields in nuclear medicine. It elaborates on how to apply nuclear medicine techniques to solve challenging problems in basic and clinical medicine for graduate students in various medical disciplines. Nuclear medicine differs from other disciplines in that it serves as both an important research tool for exploring key theories in life sciences and a medical application discipline addressing practical clinical problems. Therefore, while emphasizing experimental research, this textbook also incorporates clinical application research, providing an effective research approach for clinical graduate students to complete their degree projects. The book is divided into two parts: Experimental Techniques (Chapters 1 to 14, accounting for about 2/3 of the book) and Clinical Research (Chapters 15 to 24). The experimental techniques part introduces the fundamentals and theories of major nuclear medicine techniques, teaching research methods, while the clinical research part explains how nuclear medicine addresses clinical issues.
Guided by the development of the discipline, the textbook systematically introduces the history, current status, existing challenges, and future directions of major technological advancements in nuclear medicine, reflecting the hot topics and cutting-edge techniques in nuclear medicine research today, particularly in molecular nuclear medicine. For targeted in-depth study and research tracking, each chapter includes key references.
The authors of this textbook are composed of middle-aged and young doctoral or master supervisors with experience in graduate teaching, academic levels, and years of experience in frontline teaching, scientific research, and clinical work. Most of them have graduate backgrounds, study abroad experience, and independent research expertise, with many holding doctoral degrees. Therefore, they are well-equipped to tailor the content and depth of the textbook to the characteristics and requirements of graduate teaching. The book strives for concise language, clear structure, and accurate concepts. However, as the authors are all frontline workers and discipline leaders, they are busy, and the writing time was limited. Many new techniques and methods may still have differing views, and the writing of graduate planned textbooks remains a first-time attempt in China. Thus, the textbook may contain shortcomings and errors, and some academic biases may exist. Continuous improvement is expected during its use.
Since this book is a public course textbook for both master's and doctoral students, and nuclear medicine development varies across regions in China, it is recommended that universities use relevant chapters based on their actual conditions and the different training objectives for master's and doctoral students. Additionally, we hope that faculty and students will identify issues and provide valuable feedback during use to facilitate timely revisions.
During the writing process, this textbook received strong support and assistance from the National Higher Medical Education Textbook Construction Research Association, the People's Medical Publishing House, and the leaders of participating institutions, enabling its successful completion. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to them. Graduate students are the backbone of China's modernization and the driving force behind its continuous scientific and technological progress. We hope that this textbook will contribute to cultivating high-quality and high-level medical talent in China.
