Strengthening health work, achieving health for all, and continuously improving the health quality of the entire nation are important goals of socialist modernization construction, essential components of socialist spiritual civilization construction, and also a crucial guarantee for China's sustainable economic and social development. Implementing the health tasks proposed in the Resolution of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council on Health Reform and Development, and ensuring the successful realization of the grand goals of the new century, hinges on the development of health human resources, strengthening the moral education of medical students, and comprehensively improving the quality of medical talents. Cultivating a large number of professional teams capable of meeting societal needs and possessing both moral integrity and professional competence is the honor of medical colleges and universities in China and a key issue that must be addressed in the deepening of medical education reform. In China, some medical colleges and universities recognized the necessity of moral education for medical students in the late 1970s and officially established medical ethics courses, along with textbook development. The Medical Ethics we have compiled today is based on the Introduction to Medical Ethics, published by the People's Health Publishing House in September 1983 and compiled by Shanghai Second Medical University. We adopted its basic framework and main content as the foundation while also referencing the successful experiences of similar textbooks compiled for higher education institutions in China. When compiling this textbook, we strive to enhance its scientific rigor, innovation, and practicality, aiming to make it a well-received resource for medical students. To maintain the completeness of the subject matter and enhance the adaptability of the textbook, the content and text volume of this edition have been expanded. When using this textbook, schools can focus on or select specific content based on the target audience and the number of teaching hours.
