Features: To adapt to the needs of educational reform in the new century, the National Higher Medical Textbook Construction Research Association decided in February 2002 in Dalian to revise and organize the fifth round of clinical medicine specialty textbooks based on the fourth round. It was decided to integrate the knowledge of three aspects—pathogenic microbiology, human parasitology, and immunology—into one textbook, titled Pathogenic Biology and Immunology. Immunology developed as a result of human struggles against infectious diseases. Its earliest research content was anti-infective immunity, which was subordinated to medical microbiology. After the 1960s, immunology broke through the scope of anti-infective immunity and rapidly developed into an independent discipline. However, anti-infective immunity remains an important component of medical immunology. Given the characteristics of medical specialty curricula, combining the knowledge of pathogenic organisms (microorganisms, parasites) and immunology to write a Pathogenic Biology and Immunology textbook is appropriate. However, the immunology content covered in this textbook primarily focuses on the basics of medical immunology.
