Features: To adapt to the adjustment of the entire nursing teaching system and to better fulfill its functions in teaching and learning, this edition has been revised according to the plan of the Ministry of Health Textbook Office and the Textbook Evaluation Committee for Nursing. The content, originally written for 90 hours, will be reduced to 60 hours, cutting one-third. The main changes in this edition are: removing some sections and segments less relevant to nursing and the content of pathogens with relatively lower importance, reducing the number of chapters from 38 to 31; selecting clinically important pathogens for relatively detailed descriptions, while briefly describing those rarely encountered in clinical practice or only found in localized areas in China with small print, as optional or expanded teaching content; appropriately adding new and mature concepts and content in medical microbiology, such as genomics, toll-like receptors, bacterial secretion systems, microbial infection and apoptosis, pathogenic islands, microbial superantigens, and microbiota. All color illustrations are uniformly placed at the back of the book. Through these revisions, the textbook can meet the teaching plans of most schools, allowing teachers to teach flexibly and students to fully utilize the textbook to master the fundamental theories and knowledge of medical microbiology and parasitology needed for future professional learning and practice.
