Features: This book is set in a hospital context, with a focus on the linguistic expression of medical records as its main thread. Through conversations between doctors and patients, among doctors themselves, and among medical staff during case discussions, it lists common basic sentence patterns for medical English oral communication and naturally introduces hundreds of idiomatic expressions. The book includes over 250 dialogues covering more than 180 cases, involving various common, prevalent, and routine health care issues, as well as hot topics such as family planning and AIDS. Multiple appendices are provided at the end of the book, enabling learners to achieve the effect of learning by analogy. During the writing process, the book followed the following principles:
1. Dialogue content should as much as possible involve the actual business operations of major departments in the hospital.
2. Considering that patients are generally not medically trained, long and complex medical terms should be avoided in doctor-patient conversations. This not only allows medical staff to better fulfill their mission of serving patients but also meets the needs of general readers.
3. In dialogues between medical staff, such as case discussions, preoperative preparations, and consultations, more professional terms are included as needed. This facilitates the alignment of China's medical activities with international standards and helps Chinese doctors engage in various medical and academic activities abroad.
4. In the dialogue writing of this book, sentences frequently used in medical practice but rarely found in existing books are intentionally repeated to enable medical staff to quickly master the idiomatic sentence patterns of medical English oral communication and apply them in practice.
Since dialogue is a bidirectional language activity, this book can not only be used by medical staff but also serves as a guide for people from various industries who go abroad for medical treatment. During its trial use, the book was used as a training textbook for medical staff and medical students learning medical English oral communication, achieving excellent results.
