Features: Since the establishment of Intensive Care Units (ICUs) or Intensive Care Rooms (ICRs) in the early 1950s, over 40 years have passed, and their superiority has been widely recognized, becoming an important symbol of hospital modernization. With the advancement of technology and medicine, the functions of ICUs have gradually improved, the range of diseases treated has expanded, and they play a significant role in increasing the cure rate of critically ill patients and reducing mortality. The rise of ICUs has promoted the development of critical care medicine, which has now been included in the teaching curriculum of medical and nursing schools. In recent years, many hospitals in China have successively established various types of ICUs, with advanced monitoring equipment and treatment devices continuously being added. To meet the needs of clinical and teaching work, we have invited over 20 experts and professors engaged in ICU teaching and clinical practice to compile the book "Practical Critical Care Medicine." The book is divided into 24 chapters, covering Internal Medicine ICU, Surgery ICU, Obstetrics and Gynecology ICU, and Pediatrics ICU. Among them, the Internal Medicine ICU and Surgery ICU are organized by chapters on the respiratory system, cardiovascular system, digestive system, endocrine and metabolic system, hematological system, and nervous system. The book provides concise introductions to the etiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, and diagnosis of various critical illnesses in ICUs, with a focus on monitoring, treatment, and nursing. In the writing process, efforts have been made to align with the characteristics of ICUs, emphasize practicality, reflect progress, and ensure ease of reference.
