Features: Charles Dickens' Christmas classic, completed between 1846 and 1849, this short and captivating account of the life of Jesus Christ was written by Dickens based on the biblical Gospels specifically for his own children. When Dickens died in 1870, his last wish was that the book should not be published as long as his children were alive. For the following 85 years, the manuscript of this book was kept by Dickens' family as a precious family heirloom, secretly passed down within the family. On Christmas Eve in 1933, when the only surviving child of Dickens, Sir Henry, passed away, he left a will allowing his wife and children to decide whether to publish the book. With the overwhelming agreement of most people, Sir Henry's widow and children decided to publish it. In 1934, the book was published in the United States by Simon & Schuster. That same year, it became one of the year's best-selling books.
