Features: The publication of this volume aims to compile and present some common issues faced by Chinese literary scholars, including historical theory and historical research concepts, for those who are interested in reflection. These are the themes presented by the author at various lecture platforms both within and outside the university, as well as during two national conferences for historical scholars. Regardless of how others may perceive the author's actions as untimely, the author has become increasingly aware that this matter is of great significance, concerning the honor and destiny of Chinese historiography, and it is essential to advocate for it. At a time when the task of building political civilization has been proposed, if we remain inactive, we would be failing the era. The essays "On the Environmental Standards for Historical Evaluation" and "Happy History and Reconsideration of Historical Views—A Review of the Tang Dynasty Studies Series" in this volume elaborate on the author's aforementioned opinions, as well as express the author's regret and helplessness upon nearing the end of their career in this field after 40 years, feeling that they have not done their work well and are about to resign with a sense of sorrow. "An Overview of the Politics of the Sui, Tang, and Five Dynasties" was the original draft for a chapter in the "Sui, Tang, and Song Volume," which was marketed as a "21st Century Curriculum Textbook." "An Overview of Dunhuang" was compiled based on the author's five and a half days spent visiting 86 caves at the Mogao Grottoes with the Silk Road Expedition Team in 1981, under the guidance of Mr. Sun Xiushen, and after attending the founding conference of the Chinese Dunhuang-Turfan Society in 1983, where the author noticed the lack of a comprehensive book on Dunhuang. It synthesizes the research findings of Dunhuang scholars, particularly those who have worked in Dunhuang. "Chen Yinque and Chinese Historiography" is a lengthy article that took 35 years to complete. It was requested by Wang Jing to write on this topic. In 1964, the author was admitted as Wang Jing's graduate student, and upon enrollment, he assigned the author the task of reading Chen Yinque's "Draft on the Tang Dynasty Political History" and "Brief Discussion on the Origins of Sui-Tang Institutions," with the requirement of submitting a reading report. "Happy History and Reconsideration of Historical Views—A Review of the Tang Dynasty Studies Series" is a book review commissioned by the author, published on December 28, 2003, in two parts in the morning and afternoon.
