Features: The main purpose of this book is to explore fundamental issues of traditional Chinese rural society and even a broader scope, using the gradually formed village of Chenggong Er Village in Yunnan after the 1920s as its background and basing its research on local grassroots social institutions. It comprehensively investigates data and historical realities. This book is an anthropological fieldwork report by the author conducted in the 1940s in southern Sichuan and eastern Yunnan, which authentically records the village conditions of that time, including the natural environment and human conditions. Readers can learn about the livelihood methods and dispute resolution approaches of the people at the time, making it highly valuable as historical material. In the 1940s, I conducted social and historical research in two different ethnic areas: one was Dong Village in eastern Yunnan, which refers to the two rural Han villages in Chenggong County, Yunnan; the other was the Miao Village in southern Sichuan, referring to the Miao people in Xuyong County, Sichuan. After the founding of New China, a series of social reforms took place, leading to fundamental changes in the conditions of all ethnic groups. Therefore, the social surveys of these two areas reveal, to a certain extent, the basic characteristics of traditional China.
