Features: The author of this book, Li Xintuan (1167–1224), was a renowned historian of the Southern Song Dynasty. The Song History has a biography of him, but it contains many inaccuracies. Recent scholars, such as Professor Wang Deyi of National Taiwan University, have written "A Chronology of Li Xiuyan" and "A Study of Li Xintuan's Writings," Professor Lai Kehong of Shanghai University has authored "A Biographical and Chronological Study of Li Xintuan," and Professor Liang Taiji of Hangzhou University has written "An Exploration of the Historical Sources of the 'Essentials of the Two Dynasties' and the 'Comprehensive Annals of the Middle Ages'," all of which offer new insights into Li Xintuan and his works, which are worth referencing. Li Xintuan's main historical works, apart from this book, include the "Annals of Events from Jianyan to the Present" and the "Verification of Old News." The "Annals" consists of 200 volumes, recording the historical events of the 36 years of Emperor Gaozong's reign. The sources of its materials primarily rely on the imperial calendars and the "Comprehensive Annals of the Middle Ages" of the Gaozong era, while also extensively referencing original archival documents and a large number of private writings. These materials were carefully examined and verified by Li Xintuan, making them highly credible.
