Features: The World New English-Chinese Medical Dictionary is based on the new edition of Dorland's Illustrated Medical Dictionary and incorporates references from dictionaries such as Stedman's Medical Dictionary, Dorland's Pocket Medical Dictionary, Churchill Livingstone Medical Dictionary, Henderson's Biographical Dictionary, and Scott's Concise Dictionary of Biology. Since its publication in 1905, Dorland's Illustrated Medical Dictionary has been recognized as the authoritative guide to medical vocabulary in the 20th century. In today's era, the rapid advancement of science and technology, the explosive growth and dissemination of knowledge, and the increasing interdisciplinariness have given rise to a vast number of new terms and phrases in every field of study. Therefore, during the compilation of the World New English-Chinese Medical Dictionary, we have placed particular emphasis on the breadth and novelty of words, paying close attention to the inclusion of new terms in all medical disciplines and related fields. The dictionary contains nearly 100,000 entries covering all branches of medicine and their related natural and social sciences. To ensure the scientific rigor and accuracy of the words, we have indicated the organizations that have reviewed and approved anatomical terms, drug names, enzyme names, and other entries. For most terms, we have provided etymological information to facilitate the study of their origins and meanings, as well as to offer insights into the lives and achievements of distinguished medical scientists. At the end of the dictionary, we have compiled seven appendices: common medical abbreviations, anatomical terms (including: arteries, bones, muscles, nerves, and veins), a Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature conversion table, metric multiples and submultiples, a weight and measurement table, an approximate conversion table between metric and apothecary systems, and laboratory test reference values. These appendices not only expand the information content of the World New English-Chinese Medical Dictionary but also provide convenience for readers in reading and referencing. The World New English-Chinese Medical Dictionary is the result of the collaborative efforts and dedication of many authors. All contributors hope it will serve as an authoritative reference for medical workers, researchers, and students in medical institutions when reading English medical literature and learning medical English. During the compilation of the World New English-Chinese Medical Dictionary, our collaboration with Zhang Shucai, General Manager of the Xi'an Company of World Publishing Group, was both pleasant and successful. He provided us with strong support and guidance, and we extend our gratitude to him for this.
