Features: Jiang Fan (1761-1830), styled Ziping, Jiefu, styled Zhengtang, was a native of Ganquan (Yangzhou) and a renowned Confucian scholar during the Qing Dynasty. He participated in compiling the Imperial Qing Confucian Exegesis and the Comprehensive Gazetteer of Guangdong. Jiang Fan's most famous works are Record of Han Studies Masters in eight volumes, which includes biographies of 56 Qing Dynasty Confucian scholars, and Record of Song Studies Origins in two volumes, which includes biographies of 40 Qing Dynasty scholars who studied or admired Confucianism more deeply. Among them, Record of Han Studies Masters is a Confucian history work centered on Confucian masters. It accurately grasps the main features of Han Studies in the Qing Dynasty and comprehensively explores the academic origins, master-disciple relationships, academic purposes, representative figures, and achievements and shortcomings of textual research in the mid-Qing Dynasty. It reflects the highest achievements of textual research at the time, particularly highlighting the achievements of Confucian studies. It is the earliest monograph to provide a comprehensive summary and evaluation of Han Studies in the Qing Dynasty. It was selected by Hu Shi as part of the Minimum Basic Bibliography of National Studies. Although there is an existing annotated edition of this book, there are still some errors. In view of this, the editor of this book has devoted over ten years to meticulously examining, annotating, and organizing the versions, origins, figures, historical facts, and institutional systems of Record of Han Studies Masters. The publication of this book holds significant academic value for the study of Record of Han Studies Masters, as well as for the study of Qing Dynasty scholarship and academic history.
