Features: Japan implements a household registration system. According to the law, Japanese citizens are required to register for household registration. The household registration is organized by a married couple and their children with the same surname who establish their primary residence in a city, town, or village. Events such as birth, acknowledgment, adoption, marriage, parental rights, guardianship, acquisition or loss of nationality, name change, death, and disappearance of household registration must be reported and registered in accordance with regulations to confirm and prove personal identity, kinship relationships, and their changes. When a resident determines or changes their residence within a city, town, or village, they must declare migration in, migration out, or relocation to confirm and prove the resident's living relationship, as well as changes in resident status, including the rights and obligations arising therefrom, such as exercising the right to vote, national health insurance, pension and child allowances. This book selects recently amended Japanese household registration laws, resident basic ledger laws, and regulatory documents on household registration affairs processing and death determination, providing references for household registration legislation, household registration management personnel, and teaching and research personnel in our country.
