Social Security General Theory

Features: The chapter titles show a tendency to be unconventional. Existing works on social security, in areas such as elderly care, unemployment, medical care, work-related injuries, and maternity, often name chapters with "insurance." We did not adhere to this convention and used "security" instead. Perhaps, this is not merely a literal difference between "insurance" and "security," nor just to align the book title with the chapter titles. It is truly because "insurance" cannot be equated with "security," although the two are related in meaning and scope, they are fundamentally different. In terms of content, this book attempts to stand at the forefront of social security theory and practice, embracing both old and new. It strives to achieve:
- Relying equally on reason and emotion, drawing from practice and returning to practice, making the content accessible yet profound;
- Balancing domestic and international perspectives, rooted in China while adopting foreign approaches, integrating Eastern and Western knowledge;
- Respecting tradition while embracing innovation, acknowledging history, facing reality, and challenging the future;
- Combining qualitative and quantitative analysis, offering both general theoretical definitions and focused empirical studies, ensuring the arguments are well-founded and substantive.
We take this as our starting point and also as our destination, integrating it throughout the entire book. Perhaps, this is a bit exaggerated. And for this reason, it may also lead to greater unease.
