Features: Tourism is an applied major, and it can only maintain vitality by closely aligning with the practical realities of the tourism industry. Over the past decade or so since the reform and opening-up, China's tourism education has grown from nothing to something, achieving remarkable results that are evident to all. Currently, there are still many pressing issues in the tourism programs of Chinese universities regarding professional structure, educational characteristics, curriculum design, and practical components. Textbook development is a fundamental aspect of tourism education and an urgent priority. We need both a faculty team with substantial academic expertise and several innovative, forward-thinking textbooks that reflect contemporary characteristics to cultivate talents that are well-received by society. Now, the Department of Tourism at Fudan University and the Shanghai Municipal Tourism Administration have organized a group of experts and scholars from tourism institutions to fully leverage the integrated advantages of higher education in teaching and research, pooling their efforts to compile over ten foundational textbooks for tourism management programs, making valuable explorations in this area. We hope that experts and scholars from the academic and educational communities will pay attention to the development of tourism textbooks and look forward to more textbooks that combine theory with practice while showcasing diverse styles.
