Features: Journal of Yan Huang Culture Studies is a comprehensive academic and cultural serial publication founded by the Yan Huang Culture Research Association. The Yan Huang Culture Research Association is a national grassroots cultural organization composed of scholars, experts, and individuals with extensive cultural knowledge, as well as retired cadres who had long been engaged in cultural promotion work and representatives from various sectors. Since its establishment in Beijing in 1991, the association has made significant contributions to promoting outstanding traditional Chinese culture and fostering the development of contemporary cultural construction. To promptly reflect the association's academic achievements and facilitate academic exchanges both domestically and internationally, the association began planning the Journal of Yan Huang Culture Studies shortly after its founding. Over the past decade, it has been published annually, with ten issues now compiled and released. However, it has consistently appeared as a supplement to another influential documentary monthly publication by the association, Yan Huang Chunqiu.
With the increasing frequency of academic activities and exchanges, as well as the growing wealth of research outcomes, the association found that the supplementary format could no longer meet the needs of both subjective and objective conditions. Through efforts and with the support of knowledgeable individuals, the association began publishing Journal of Yan Huang Culture Studies with the Xiangyang Press in Henan Province in 2004. This province is one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilization and the ancestral home of the Yellow Emperor, Xuanyuan. The journal will continue to build on its established characteristics while also expanding and developing, with two issues published annually. This marks a new phase in the editing and publishing of Journal of Yan Huang Culture Studies.
In today's publishing industry, where countless journals and serials exist in a myriad of circumstances, some have thrived and become renowned brands, while others struggle to survive, and some have even and faded away. Faced with such fierce competition, how to ensure the continuous survival and development of Journal of Yan Huang Culture Studies and make it even more vibrant is a responsibility that the editors cannot take lightly. They have embraced this challenge and are deeply reflecting on the matter.
To fulfill its editorial purpose and reflect the academic achievements of the association and the field of cultural studies, Journal of Yan Huang Culture Studies features columns such as "Special Articles," "Studies on the Yellow and Yan Emperors and Their Era," "Origins of Chinese Civilization," "National and Regional Cultures," "Cultural Relics and Archaeology," and "Trends and Schools of Thought." To foster academic vitality and encourage discussions on diverse opinions, it includes "Exploration and Debate" and "Cultural Discussions." To honor the contributions of older scholars who have made outstanding achievements in Chinese culture, it features "Chinese Scholars." To strengthen exchanges with the international community, it includes "Overseas Studies on Chinese Culture." Additionally, it offers "Book Reviews and Prefaces" and "Academic Dynamics" to keep readers updated on the latest developments in cultural research.
The establishment of these columns reflects some of the distinctive features of Journal of Yan Huang Culture Studies. In a cultural landscape where numerous journals vie for attention, those that wish to stand out must not only maintain high academic quality but also possess unique characteristics. Journal of Yan Huang Culture Studies differs from the comprehensive social science and humanities journals of universities and research institutions, as well as from specialized journals in various disciplines. As a comprehensive academic and cultural serial publication, the articles it publishes are primarily related to the study of traditional Chinese culture and contemporary cultural construction, with profound cultural depth and substance.
Moreover, even when compared to similar journals that focus on traditional culture, Journal of Yan Huang Culture Studies shares both similarities and differences. For instance, its research on the Yellow and Yan Emperors and their era, emphasis on the origins of Chinese civilization and related cultural relics and archaeology, as well as studies on regional and national cultures, are all unique features.
We hope to contribute significantly to promoting outstanding national culture and enabling Chinese culture to make new contributions to world civilization under the banner of Yan Huang Culture (i.e., Chinese culture). With the support of esteemed scholars and scholars from both domestic and international academic and cultural circles, and through the collective efforts of the editorial team, we aim to make Journal of Yan Huang Culture Studies a uniquely distinctive publication that cannot be replaced by others.
