Author: Cai Renhou

Publish Date: 2006-06-01
Features: This book is an academic monograph dedicated to the thought of the Jiangyou School of Wang Studies. Based on Huang Liuzhou's "Biographies of Ming Confucian Scholars" (Ming Rujia Xuesan), where it is stated that the Jiangyou School truly inherited Wang Yangming's teachings and corrected the deviations of the Zhe School, the author not only discusses the division of Wang Studies but also conducts case studies and research on a group of thinkers from the Jiangyou School, such as Yangming's direct disciples like Zou Dongluo, Ouyang Nanye, and Chen Mingshui, his unofficial disciples like Nie Shuangjiang and Luo Nian'an, as well as his disciples who gradually diverged from the mainstream, such as Liu Liangfeng, Liu Shiquan, Wang Tangnan, and Luo Jinxi, and the later proponents of the Jiangyou School. Furthermore, the book provides a comprehensive evaluation of the characteristics of Jiangyou scholarship and Jiangyou Wang Studies. In the appendix, it summarizes and clarifies the practical achievements of Wang Yangming's "People's Mind" (Junmin) thought, aiming to prove that the so-called "Li Xue" (Learning of Principle) or "Xin Xue" (Learning of the Mind) advocated by Song and Ming Confucian scholars was fundamentally focused on practice rather than empty rhetoric.
