Publish Date: 2006-09-01
Features: The vernacular version of Zizhi Tongjian created by the Taiwanese scholar Baoyang, titled "Qin Wind and Han Rain" (4 volumes), was published by Beiyue Literature and Art Press. Baoyang began working on the translation of Zizhi Tongjian in 1983 and published it in monthly installments as a magazine by the Taiwan Yilin Publishing Company, titled Baoyang's Version of Zizhi Tongjian. Over the period of (1983-1993), Mr. Baoyang translated Zizhi Tongjian into modern language, personally redrew maps, and infused his own historical perspectives, discussing the causes of historical success and failure, making a historical work originally intended only for emperors, generals, and ministers so accessible to readers today. The series has undergone extensive revisions—on one hand, correcting and revising the names and places in the original text to address numerous omissions and errors, and on the other hand, adapting terms and narrative styles that were not suitable for readers in mainland China or modern Chinese norms. Additionally, the historical maps and charts were redrawn based on the Historical Atlas of China and the latest research findings.
