He wrote a letter to his grandson at his son's request, proposing ten commandments for daily life:
1. Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today.
2. Never trouble others with what you can do yourself.
3. Never spend money you do not yet have.
4. Never buy something you do not need just because it is cheap; it may end up costing you more.
5. Never be proud; pride is more harmful than hunger, thirst, or cold.
6. Do not overeat; eating too little will not make you regret it.
7. Do not worry about things that are impossible.
8. Always do things in the right way.
9. When you are angry, count to 10 before speaking; if you are furious, count to 100.
10. Do not do things reluctantly; only when you do them willingly can you excel and persevere.
