When can newborn jaundice usually subside?

Patient's question:

The child has shown symptoms of jaundice, and it has been about ten days now. The jaundice started when the child was around 15 days old, and now that the child is one month old, it hasn't gone away yet. When does neonatal jaundice usually subside?

Doctor's answer:

Neonatal jaundice is not controlled by symptoms. If jaundice is observed with the naked eye, a jaundice test needs to be performed on the skin, or bilirubin in the blood needs to be tested to further clarify. When the jaundice index is greater than 14, timely blue light irradiation and oral treatment are required to reduce jaundice and prevent further exacerbation of kernicterus. Physiological jaundice usually subsides within a week. If it is breast milk jaundice, it is recommended to stop breastfeeding for three days.
