A General Outline of Chinese History was decided upon during the 1961 meeting of the Higher Education Literature and Arts Textbook Selection Plan Conference, with Professor Jian Bozan commissioned to organize its writing as a textbook for Chinese general history in higher education. During the writing and discussion process, Professor Jian Bozan frequently engaged in repeated discussions with the writing team on issues such as format, theoretical application, and historical source evaluation. He repeatedly emphasized the need to adhere to a historical perspective, explain issues with historical facts, and ground the arguments in solid scientific research. Even during the final drafting, he meticulously polished every word. These efforts fully reflect his rigorous and responsible attitude as the chief editor and his serious approach to historical science.
