Features: Have you ever heard strange howls in the middle of the night? Have you ever heard footsteps in the dark—yet couldn’t see anyone? Have you seen terrifying shadows lurking in the dimness, with eyes watching you, or heard a voice calling your name from behind? If so, you should know that strange tingling sensation—the kind that gives you goosebumps and leaves you frozen with fear. In these books, ghosts whisper in the attic; frightened children suddenly become invisible; scarecrows come to life and wander the fields; puppets and dolls also come alive, scaring people everywhere. Headless Ghost tells a chilling legend about Hill Castle: over a hundred years ago, a boy named Andrew in the castle’s family was decapitated by a ghost and his head hidden. Since then, every night when it’s quiet, a headless boy ghost appears in the castle, searching room by room for his head. Stephanie and Duane want to find out what’s really going on. The two secretly sneak into a traveling group led by seven adults, but after visiting a few rooms, Duane is surprised to discover an unfamiliar boy’s face among the group: his face is deathly pale, staring intently at Duane. In the dark, no one notices the extra person in the group—except Duane. At this moment, eager to find the head of the headless boy, Stephanie and Duane secretly leave the traveling group. Duane enters a room that has never been opened before and suddenly hears a grating sound like bones rubbing together. Then, a chilling wind blows, and the Stephanie in front of him disappears.
Scary Stories III: Puppet Fright
On the attic of Trena’s house, there are many abandoned and old puppets, but her dad brings back another one. One day, Trena and her brother Dan accidentally read some strange words in a pocket of the new puppet. From then on, a series of strange things happen in the house: mysterious noises always come from the attic; her cousin Zane is scared out of his wits several times by the puppets, and the same ghostly image appears in his photos; the house is thrown into chaos, as if it had been looted.
Trena’s parents suspect she’s behind it, and Trena, Dan, and Zane start to suspect each other. Finally, one night, to uncover the truth, Trena climbs the dark attic with her brother, only to be stunned by what she sees.
