Features: The outstanding works of the 2004 China Interior Design Competition are about to be unveiled to the public. Over one-third of the entries belong to residential architecture, demonstrating the significant importance of living spaces in our lives. This year's residential entries cover various aspects such as houses, apartments, villas, and showrooms, showcasing a wide range of content and diverse styles, with design quality improving compared to previous years. Even more encouraging is the emergence of a new generation of outstanding mid-to-young interior designers, reflecting the continuous growth of our design team.
From the works, we can see that designers' design philosophies are evolving, shifting from an excessive focus on spatial expression to a greater emphasis on functional usability. This is a process of deepening the understanding of the essence of design. Essentially, interior design is the design of life, requiring designers to be familiar with daily living and to adopt a human-centered approach, fully considering people's specific needs in the environment. Therefore, throughout the design process, a humanistic touch must be infused. This care should not be superficial or merely formal but should extend to every subtle detail, such as the rationality of spatial arrangements, the smoothness of human flow lines, the positioning and lighting range of each light fixture, the height of railings, the shape of door handles, the scale of furniture, and so on. All these aspects are essential for designers to consider and study.
Thus, interior design should not merely pursue superficial changes in form, shape, color, and other aesthetics. It is more important to master knowledge such as ergonomics and environmental psychology, to delve into life, and to study it thoroughly before discussing human-centric design. Especially in residential space design, it is even more crucial to let people feel the care of interior design for humans, which will make our living environment increasingly better.
