Xiaoqikong Scenic Area, also known as Xiaoqikong Scenic Spot and Libo Xiaoqikong Scenic Area, is a national nature reserve located in the southwest of Libo County, Qiannan Buyei and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province. The scenic area covers a total area of approximately 46.4 square kilometers.
Xiaoqikong Scenic Area is situated in the southern margin of the Guizhou Plateau. Its geological landscapes are divided into four major categories: karst landscapes, geomorphological landscapes, water landscapes, and biological landscapes. Among these, the karst landscapes are further divided into surface karst landscapes and underground karst landscapes. Tianzhong Cave is an underground karst cave, while Feiyun Cave is a karst cave. Xiaoqikong Scenic Area has a mid-subtropical monsoon humid climate, with four distinct seasons and simultaneous rain and heat. The scenic area integrates multiple landscapes such as water, caves, forests, waterfalls, lakes, and rocks, and mainly includes Laya Waterfall, Xiangshui River, Yuanyang Lake, and others. The forest coverage rate in the scenic area reaches over 92%, and the air contains 180,000 negative oxygen ions per cubic centimeter, earning it the reputation of a "lung-cleansing health and wellness" resort. The plants in the scenic area are mainly natural ecological forests, with a small portion of artificial plant landscapes.
Xiaoqikong Scenic Area was approved by the State Council as a national-level scenic and historic area in 1994. It is China's sixth and Guizhou's first world natural heritage site, and was later rated as a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction in July 2015. In 2021, the scenic area was honored as a national advanced collective in the culture and tourism system, a national Youth Civilization Unit, and a national-level civilized tourism demonstration unit. In August 2024, the average daily visitor volume of Xiaoqikong Scenic Area exceeded 60,000.
