It Wang Guowei's literary and aesthetic thought and is a landmark work in the history of classical Chinese literary aesthetics. Since its first publication in 1908, On the Human World in Lyrics has appeared in numerous editions and has been revised and edited repeatedly. Due to its inheritance of the traditional Chinese literary criticism form, On the Human World in Lyrics consists of fragmented remarks, where flashes of inspiration often give rise to brilliant expressions. Therefore, the manuscript edition preserves to a great extent the authenticity of the writing process and holds an irreplaceable value compared to the relatively self-contained edited versions. Unfortunately, Wang Guowei's manuscripts have long been buried in the archives, inaccessible to many readers. Thus, based on Mr. Teng Xian's New Annotations of On the Human World in Lyrics and Mr. Focui's Revised On the Human World in Lyrics, we have reorganized and annotated this Complete Manuscript of On the Human World in Lyrics, striving to present the original manuscript of Wang Guowei authentically to the readers.
