Features: Guangxi, located in the southern frontier of our motherland, is a beautiful and mystical land, as well as a charming tourist destination that beckons and lingers in the hearts of visitors. When I happily read the manuscript of Map Discovery Journey · Strange Mountains and Beautiful Waters - Guangxi, edited and compiled by Huang Huajiang, Lian Xu, and Yang Li, I was deeply moved. It made me think of the famous saying, "The benevolent love mountains, the wise love water," and of the natural scenery and ethnic customs of the Guangxi region. I also thought of the splendid historical and cultural heritage created by the people of all ethnic groups in Guangxi, and of the unique tourism landscape of Guangxi, which will surely be promoted across the country and to the world.
Guangxi combines mountains, coastal areas, border regions, and riverbanks, with convenient transportation. It is the most accessible sea route in the western region, a must-pass corridor for the east to reach the west, and the only province in China that borders ASEAN countries both on land and at sea, possessing unique geographical advantages. Last year, the first China-ASEAN Expo was successfully held in Nanning, bringing Guangxi to the forefront of opening up and regional cooperation.
Guangxi is leveraging the China-ASEAN Expo as a platform to strengthen economic and technological cooperation with Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macau, and the Southwest China region, promoting collaboration and development in the Pan Pearl River Delta region. This will be an inevitable choice for accelerating Guangxi's development. Guangxi needs the world, and the world needs Guangxi even more. The world will become more beautiful because of Guangxi, and Guangxi will develop faster and more beautifully because of the world!
As a autonomous region, Guangxi is a paradise with stunning mountains and waters, boasting abundant tourism resources. The miraculous craftsmanship of nature has created a variety of magnificent and unique landscapes in Guangxi, while history has left behind precious cultural heritage. By 2004, Guangxi had more than 700 tourist areas (points), including 34 national and provincial-level scenic spots, 221 key cultural relic protection units, 10 tourist resorts, and 11 forest parks, with 24 of them recognized as national 4A and 3A-level tourist areas (points).
In addition, the 12 ethnic groups—Zhuang, Han, Yao, Mulao, Miao, Nan, Dong, and Shui—who live in this land of breathtaking peaks and rivers have, through their diligence and wisdom, created unique cultures and ethnic customs. Festivals such as the Zhuang people's "San Yue San" (Third Month Third Festival) song festival, the Yao people's "Zhuzhuo Festival," and the Mulao people's "Yifan Festival" are all vivid showcases of the ethnic minorities' distinctive traditions. It can be said that ethnic songs, folk customs, clothing, architecture, and cuisine are another landscape that Guangxi presents to visitors.
To accelerate tourism development, our region has increased investment in tourism, focusing on creating high-quality products and promoting five major tourist routes: the Guilin Landscape and Folk Culture Tourism Route, the Southern Border Scenic Tourist Route, the Beibu Gulf Coastal Border Tourism Route, the Eastern Guangxi Historical and Cultural Religious Scenic Route, and the Nan-Kun Railway Strange Mountains and Beautiful Waters Ecological Scenery Tourist Route.
This book primarily introduces the tourist attractions of Guangxi. The author, through personal travel experiences, clearly and vividly describes the natural and cultural landscapes of Guangxi, accompanied by corresponding maps, numerous scenic photos taken along the routes, and practical information on food, accommodation, and transportation. May readers follow the guidance of this book to immerse themselves in the mountains and waters of Guangxi!
