Features: Acupuncture and Moxibustion is the "National Higher TCM Colleges Planning Textbook for the New Century," which was compiled jointly by TCM colleges across the country under the organization of the National TCM Textbook Construction Research Association. It was developed in response to the spirit of the Ministry of Education's notice on "Suggestions for the Construction and Reform of General Higher Education Textbooks during the 10th Five-Year Plan Period" and aims to meet the needs of cultivating high-quality innovative talents in the 21st century and the reform and development of higher TCM education in China.
This textbook is suitable for the seven-year program in TCM at higher TCM colleges across the country, as well as for acupuncture and moxibustion postgraduate students, clinical acupuncture practitioners, and self-taught enthusiasts in TCM acupuncture and moxibustion. Building on the writing experience of previous editions, this textbook fully reflects the achievements of teaching reform and research in the seven-year program, aligns with practical teaching needs, and emphasizes excellence. Through studying this textbook, students can systematically master the basic theories, knowledge, and skills of acupuncture and moxibustion, understand the main achievements of modern acupuncture and moxibustion research, and expand the depth and breadth of the content to cultivate innovative and clinical application abilities among seven-year students. The textbook strives to embody its ideological, contemporary, scientific, advanced, and applicable nature.
The book is divided into three main parts (Upper, Middle, and Lower) and an Appendix, covering topics such as meridians and acupoints, acupuncture and moxibustion techniques, clinical treatment, an overview of modern acupuncture and moxibustion research, selected poetic verses on acupuncture and moxibustion, interpretations of ancient anatomical terminology, the Ziwu Liu Zhu (Twelve Hours) Acupuncture Method, the Lingguai Ba (Spirit Turtle Eight) Method, clinical research standards for acupuncture and moxibustion, and the writing of acupuncture and moxibustion case histories.
Compared to the "New Century" five-year program textbook, this edition has added more content in certain chapters: the Introduction discusses the disciplinary nature of acupuncture and moxibustion, providing a detailed introduction to the formation and major achievements of its theoretical system; the Upper Part includes concepts of meridians and meridian theory, the circulation of meridian qi, and more on the distribution and clinical application of meridians; in the meridian and acupoint discussions, based on clinical needs, it introduces summaries of meridian indications and clinical applications of acupoints, with concise summaries after each meridian and acupoint, outlining their location, indications, and acupuncture methods for easier learning.
In the Middle Part, it adds topics such as contraindications for acupuncture and moxibustion and Neijing (Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon) acupuncture techniques to enhance students' clinical application of acupuncture and moxibustion methods. In the Lower Part on clinical treatment, it introduces the characteristics of acupuncture and moxibustion diagnosis and treatment to strengthen students' ability to diagnose and treat based on syndrome differentiation. For each disease, in addition to detailed descriptions of acupuncture and moxibustion treatment and precautions, it also highlights clinical experiences and modern research progress on acupuncture and moxibustion treatment for the disease, based on contemporary research findings.
The Appendix includes interpretations of ancient anatomical terminology, clinical research standards for acupuncture and moxibustion, and the writing of acupuncture and moxibustion case histories. At the end of the book, three color illustrations are appended to indicate the locations of human acupoints for easy reference by students.
