Features: The content of this book: This book was planned and written over 20 years ago. The preface added to this introduction was written somewhat hastily in 1956. If this introduction had been written in 1975, in what ways would it have been different? Of course, even the book itself would have changed. Professor Porter's writing team consisted of the people he could gather at the time, and undoubtedly, there were some authors he would have been very willing to hire if possible. However, I believe the chronological limitations of this volume and its position in other related series impose severe restrictions on the selection of potential contributors.
