Features: In the 21st century, computer technology has become an important foundation for promoting rapid socio-economic development and a representative of the knowledge economy era. While secondary vocational schools train qualified technical talents, they must also emphasize computer technology education. This not only helps improve students' basic cultural literacy but also provides them with the necessary auxiliary tools for learning other subjects. This textbook is designed for secondary vocational schools and was compiled based on the "Teaching Guidance for Network Technology Basic Course in Computer and Application Major of Secondary Vocational Schools" issued by the Ministry of Education in 2001. According to the training objectives of secondary vocational education, the teaching task of this course is to enable students to understand and master the basic knowledge and skills of computer networks, develop fundamental abilities to apply computer networks, enhance their scientific and cultural literacy, cultivate a spirit of teamwork, and meet the basic requirements for training high-quality laborers and junior and intermediate specialized talents. At the same time, it lays a foundation for students to use computers to learn other courses, equipping them with preliminary abilities to further study related professional knowledge using computers; it also helps establish a scientific attitude and intellectual property awareness, encouraging them to engage in information technology activities in accordance with the law. This book is primarily aimed at students in secondary vocational schools. In terms of content selection, it focuses on introducing the basic knowledge, fundamental principles, and practical applications of computer network technology, emphasizing the explanation of the basic concepts, important theories, and practical applications of computer network technology while avoiding overly complex theoretical discussions. The narrative is designed to be as easy to understand as possible, with the student as the central focus in the arrangement of teaching content. The book is divided into 10 chapters, covering main topics such as the basic knowledge of computer networks and data communication, the main organizational methods and hierarchical structure of networks, the structure, characteristics, and setup methods of local area networks, the basic knowledge and applications of the Internet, the basic framework, principles, and content of network management, the basic system and related technologies of network security, and also includes the network functions of the widely used Windows 2000 operating system. Each chapter is accompanied by corresponding exercises to help students reinforce the content. For teaching convenience, representative examples are provided for each chapter to consolidate theoretical knowledge, combined with experimental teaching to cultivate students' innovative abilities, and closely integrate theory with practice. The book is arranged in accordance with the cognitive patterns of beginners, progressing from simple to complex and in a step-by-step manner. For dry and tedious professional knowledge, such as computer technology terms, terminology, and concepts, we established a writing principle of permeating basic knowledge and using examples and illustrations interactively. During the writing process, we strictly adhered to the principle of "starting with practicality, permeating with numerous illustrations, and motivating students' learning enthusiasm as the foundation." Review experts fully affirmed the writing philosophy, content selection, and writing style of this book. The experts believed, "The textbook meets the requirements of the teaching guidance in terms of content selection and length. The arrangement and selection of teaching content have made reasonable adjustments and explorations, making it more suitable for the characteristics and teaching realities of secondary vocational school students."
