Features: To promote the development and management of water resources in a more sustainable manner, the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) held in 2002 called on countries to formulate strategies for integrated water resources management (IWRM) and improving water use efficiency by the end of 2005. The purpose of formulating these strategies was to support countries in achieving their own development goals, such as reducing poverty, enhancing food security, promoting economic development, and protecting ecosystems; as well as to address specific water issues, such as flood control, drought relief, ensuring water supply and sanitation, and managing increasingly severe water competition and water scarcity. This manual was written by the Technical Committee of Global Water Partnership (GWP), with the aim of providing countries with knowledge that can help them take effective actions to implement the initiatives proposed by the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD). The formulation of these strategies should catalyze action rather than hinder it. Countries should determine the scope and timeline of transformation based on their own development goals and resource conditions. The key is to take the first step. The Global Water Partnership Technical Committee (GWPTEC) is composed of internationally recognized professionals and scientists with extensive experience in their respective water management fields. Members of the Technical Committee come from all over the world, providing technical and consulting services to other institutions of the Global Water Partnership and all partners of the Global Water Partnership.
