Features: The "English-Chinese and Chinese-English Translation Teaching Material for Graduate Students" was compiled to better meet the needs of English teaching and curriculum reform for non-English major graduate students. Its purpose is to help students further improve their language translation skills on the basis of proficiently mastering listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities, so that they can become high-quality talents with strong comprehensive English application skills and better serve society. This teaching material mainly has the following two characteristics:
1. Practicality. In addition to introducing basic translation theory, methods, and techniques, this textbook also focuses on introducing translation techniques for practical documents. This is very important for non-English major students, as it will enable them to truly apply what they have learned when translating official letters, contracts, or scientific and technical documents after graduation.
2. Targetedness. Non-English major graduate students are different from English major graduate students. They focus not on translation theory research but on translation methods and techniques to ensure they can accurately and fluently translate materials in practical work. Based on this, this teaching material emphasizes the mutual conversion of English and Chinese parts of speech, the comparison of English and Chinese sentence structures, and the handling of special sentence patterns during translation, all illustrated with numerous examples to help students deepen their understanding of translation methods and techniques.
Additionally, it should be noted that most of the examples cited in this teaching material are from the main textbook "Comprehensive English for Graduate Students." These examples may have been mentioned when discussing the main textbook or may not have been mentioned at all, but they have not been deeply analyzed or researched from a translation methods perspective. Through this purposeful analysis and research, students will not only gain a deeper understanding of the previously learned texts but also better develop and improve their language analysis and logical thinking skills.
