Features: Literature originally has no distinction between ancient and modern, or Chinese and foreign, because not only is various knowledge interconnected, but human nature also shares many similarities. Therefore, I also agree with Yin Guoming's interpretation of the traditional Chinese concept of "Dao" as "road," because with roads, we can communicate and interact with each other. Clearly, simply recognizing the commonalities between us is not enough; the key lies in having bridges and pathways for communication and exchange, which relies on the efforts of people to construct and pave such bridges and roads. This is, of course, no easy task—it requires not only persistent academic dedication but also a belief in and love for humanity, using our hearts and minds to bridge cultural divides between people. Yin Guoming was my student, a person who was free-spirited, open-minded, and valiant; deeply influenced by traditional Chinese culture, he naturally possessed a compassionate heart that shared joys and sorrows with all beings. I believe his book is also a form of "building bridges and paving roads," aiming to promote communication and exchange in the field of Chinese and Western literary and artistic theory. This in itself is a very meaningful endeavor. Therefore, I also hope that more people will join in building bridges and paving roads in the future to foster exchange between Eastern and Western cultures and enhance mutual communication and understanding among people.
