Features: Among them, there are three volumes of novels, titled "The Rose Gate," "City Without Rain," and "The Bathing Girls"; two volumes of novellas, titled "How Far Is Eternity" and "The Afternoon Cliff"; two volumes of short stories, titled "Guests Are Coming" and "Chocolate"; and two volumes of essays, titled "The Walking Dream" and "As Beautiful and Clear as Paper-Cuttings." Readers familiar with the author's works might notice that the novel "City Without Rain" was published in 1994, but it was excluded from the collection when the author edited the in 1996. The reason was likely that it was considered not substantial enough at the time! Even because it was too popular, it made the author feel uneasy and doubt the artistic quality of the work. Ten years later, the author included it in this series of works because the author clearly realized that the writing of "City Without Rain" had trained the author's ability to structure long novels, and later works like "The Bathing Girls" and "Foolish Flower" benefited from this structural training to some extent. When a writer summarizes the stages of their work, they should not overlook the writing that serves as a connection and preparation. The volume "As Beautiful and Clear as Paper-Cuttings" mostly includes the author's thoughts on literature, as well as some ramblings about art, painting, and the like with the mindset of "the ignorant are fearless," along with some insights from travels abroad.
