Patient's question:
When my baby was born, it wasn't in a big hospital, so the medical conditions weren't as good, and there wasn't a hearing screening done. My husband and I have been planning to take the child to a big hospital to check it one day, so I wanted to ask when is the time for newborn hearing screening?Doctor's answer:
Time for newborn hearing screening:1. Initial screening process (primary screening): Hearing screening during the hospital stay after birth within 3-5 days.
2. Second screening process (re-screening): Infants born within 42 days who did not pass the initial screening; or those with "suspicious" results from the initial screening; or even if the initial test was "passed," children with high risk of hearing loss, such as those in the intensive care unit, require re-examination of their hearing.
Target population for newborn hearing screening:
There are mainly two types of target populations for newborn hearing screening. One is all newborns with normal birth; the other is newborns with high-risk factors for hearing impairment.
