How should neonatal aspiration syndrome be treated?

Patient's question:

Neonatal aspiration syndrome, the child couldn't eat for 3 days after birth, vomiting every time they tried. They received intravenous fluids for three days at the county hospital with no improvement. Can this condition be treated?

Doctor's answer:

Hello. Areflux syndrome (gastroesophageal reflux syndrome) refers to vomiting in newborns during the delivery process, caused by excessive swallowing of amniotic fluid, maternal blood, or vaginal mucus secretions. These secretions are contaminated with meconium or bacteria, which stimulate the gastric mucosa and lead to excessive secretion of gastric acid and mucus. It is commonly seen in children with difficult labor, asphyxia, or prolonged delivery. Patients with mild symptoms generally do not require special treatment. Those with severe vomiting should be placed in a side-lying position to avoid aspiration, undergo appropriate fasting, and receive supportive treatment. After swallowing and vomiting, the child will recover within 1 to 2 days.
