Features: This book is meticulously designed and compiled according to the requirements of the "Teaching Syllabus for English Majors in Higher Education" and the "Syllabus for the English Majors' Band 4 Test." It serves as a standard for academic assessment for students and a basis for evaluating teaching effectiveness for teachers. The compilers are senior professors and language testing experts from renowned universities such as Shanghai International Studies University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, and East China Normal University. This series of books is organized and compiled by the largest and most authoritative foreign language book publishing base in China—FLTRP—to support the cultivation of English major talents in Chinese higher education. The exercise types in this book are basically the same as those in the English Majors' Band 4 Test, with additional sentence translation exercises added to help students master some commonly used vocabulary and phrases. However, in the later mock tests, there are no translation questions. Students can choose to do part of the exercises at intervals according to their own situation, record their progress, or focus on improving their weak areas at a specific time. Additionally, since the content for levels 1 and 2 is relatively limited and the difficulty is lower, the time limits for the two mock tests are shorter than those of the Band 4 Test, and the order of the questions is slightly different. For convenience, the writing section has been moved to the end, and the grammar and vocabulary sections are not combined as they are in the Band 4 Test.
This exercise book aims to provide an opportunity for third-year English majors in universities across the country and learners with similar proficiency levels to assess their English skills. Through practice, students not only gain insight into their learning progress and gaps but also become familiar with the question types of the English Majors' Band 8 Test, thereby improving their practical English skills and test-taking abilities. The features of this book are:
1. Complementarity and Series: Students can not only achieve a level equivalent to that of the English Majors' Band 6 Test through the exercises in this book but also systematically improve their English proficiency from Band 1 to Band 8 in this series of books step by step.
2. Targeted and Practical: Through targeted training in each section, students can self-assess their English proficiency, identify gaps and weaknesses, build a solid foundation, and become familiar with the question types and difficulty of the English Majors' Band 8 Test. This helps students determine their direction and methods for improvement. The exercises in this book are also suitable for preparing for other types of exams, such as the non-English majors' Band 6 Test, postgraduate entrance exams, PET, EPT, TOEFL, and GRE.
3. Up-to-Date and Comprehensive Themes: The material in this book is entirely selected from authentic English-language sources, featuring natural language, diverse themes, broad content, and fresh perspectives. It combines knowledge and entertainment, making it suitable as reading material.
