Features: Traditional Chinese patent medicine is an important part of the heritage of our country's medicine. It is renowned for its significant efficacy, wide application, and minimal side effects. Due to the vast variety of traditional Chinese patent medicines, their diverse formulas, complex dosage forms, and varying efficacies, if used appropriately, they can produce rapid effects. Conversely, improper use may lead to wasted medicine and delayed treatment, with severe cases potentially endangering lives. Therefore, to inherit and promote the legacy of our country's medicine, ensure the safe and effective use of medications, avoid waste, and rationally utilize traditional Chinese patent medicines for treating diseases, this book, "The Rational Use of Traditional Chinese Patent Medicines," has been compiled for the reference of medical professionals. This book was first published in 1984 and has been reprinted seven times. At the request of readers, this edition has been updated to include more traditional Chinese patent medicines based on clinical needs, increasing the number from 490 in the previous edition to approximately 1,030. The selected medicinal varieties are comprehensive, with many new additions that align with clinical practice. The book is divided into two parts: General Introduction and Specific Sections. The General Introduction provides chapters on the history of traditional Chinese patent medicines, their naming and classification, compatibility and contraindications, prescription composition and variations, common dosage forms, usage and dosage, and treatment principles. The Specific Sections introduce each traditional Chinese patent medicine according to common diseases and syndromes in internal medicine, gynecology, pediatrics, surgery, orthopedics, dermatology, and ophthalmology and otolaryngology. They primarily cover the source of the prescription, composition, efficacy, indications, explanation of the formula, dosage form and specifications, usage and dosage, precautions, clinical applications, and differential diagnosis. Among these, the book places special emphasis on the compatibility of medicinal herbs and the significance of the formulas. The explanations of formulas and differential diagnosis are largely based on the author's clinical insights and experience, offering valuable reference for the rational use of traditional Chinese patent medicines in clinical practice. The book is compiled based on the composition and efficacy of medicinal herbs, adhering to the principles of TCM syndrome differentiation and medication. The text is written in an accessible and systematic manner, making it easy to understand and master. The appended phonetic index and stroke index of medicinal names further enhance the book's convenience for reference. These features make the book suitable for a wide range of readers, serving as a valuable reference for clinical practice and home healthcare. This book is suitable for clinical physicians (including TCM practitioners, integrated Chinese and Western medicine practitioners, and Western medicine practitioners), TCM researchers and developers, practicing pharmacists and sales staff in pharmacies, as well as enthusiasts of TCM.
