The publication of these books is a need for clinical medical work and modern hospital management. They are not only used to systematically guide the clinical work of Peking Union Medical College Hospital but also serve as references for medical professionals nationwide. The editor-in-chief believes that the compilation of these books is a summary and refinement of past work experience, aiming to provide basic procedures and methods for clinical practice. They only reflect currently mature and applicable methods and technologies, which need to be continuously enriched and revised with the development of disciplines. The publication of these books does not hinder the development of new medical technologies or technological reforms.
Alongside the development of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, the Department of Infectious Diseases has gradually formed its own disciplinary characteristics through long-term clinical practice. The main areas it covers include: undetermined fever, sepsis, hospital-acquired severe and difficult infections, central nervous system infections, liver diseases, and the diagnosis and treatment of AIDS and other infectious diseases. Combining this work with mature experiences from domestic and international disciplines, this book consists of 11 chapters and 142 entries. Some diseases, such as smallpox, were declared globally eradicated by the World Health Organization in 1980, and poliomyelitis has been largely eradicated in China. However, due to the use of pathogenic microorganisms by some countries in modern times to create "biological weapons," these diseases still pose potential threats to human health, and thus are included in this book. Since this century, the incidence of AIDS in China has been increasing annually. This book provides detailed information on clinical and diagnostic measures as well as laboratory tests in relevant chapters. The book includes: General Principles, Viral Infections, Rickettsial Infections, Chlamydial Infections, Mycoplasma Infections, Bacterial Infections, Mycobacterial Infections, etc.
