Features: Compared to the more elegant and lively French Suites, the richness, breadth, varied character, and some technically demanding passages in these suites are distinctive features of Bach's musical language in his youth. Therefore, their composition date may predate the French Dances, likely before Bach served as Kapellmeister in K?then, which would be before 1722. The original manuscripts of these suites have not been preserved; we only have copies left by Bach's students.
